How to delete and organize Internet favorites and bookmarks

Internet bookmarks and favorites are a great way to quickly navigate back to the websites you like the most. However, sometimes bookmarks need to be rearranged, renamed, or deleted. The following sections contain information on how to manage your bookmarks and favorites in all of the major Internet browsers. To proceed, select your browser from the list below and follow the instructions.

• Microsoft Edge
• Microsoft Edge Legacy
• Internet Explorer
• Google Chrome
• Google Chrome for Android
• Mozilla Firefox
• Opera
• Safari
• Safari on iPhone or iPad

Microsoft Edge

Note

Always start by following the instructions in the first section. All the other actions, such as deleting, organizing, and renaming your bookmarks, require you to access them first.

To access your favorites

1. Open the Microsoft Edge browser.
2. In the upper-right corner of the screen, click the icon.
3. At the top of the drop-down menu, click Manage favorites.

4. On the next screen, the menu on the left allows you to see items in your Favorites bar and other various folders.

5. Once you select a folder, you see its contents displayed in the middle of the screen, similar to the image below.

To delete favorites

To delete favorites, check the boxes next to them and then click the Delete button.

You can remove favorites individually by clicking the "X" icon on the right side of each entry.

To move and organize favorites

Drag-and-drop your favorites to rearrange them. You can move them around in their current folder or to a different one.

To rename favorites

1. Right-click the favorite or folder you want to rename.
2. Select Edit from the drop-down menu that appears.

3. Type the desired name and click the Save button.

Microsoft Edge Legacy

To access your favorites

1. Open the Microsoft Edge Legacy browser.
2. In the upper-right corner of the screen, click the icon.
3. On the left side of the menu that appears, click the icon.

To delete favorites

1. Right-click the favorite or folder you want to delete.
2. Select Delete from the drop-down menu that appears.

To move and organize favorites

Drag-and-drop your favorites to rearrange them. You can move them around in their current folder or to a different one.

To rename favorites

1. Right-click the favorite or folder you want to rename.
2. Select Rename from the drop-down menu that appears.

3. Type the desired name and press Enter.

Internet Explorer

Note

To access favorites

1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
2. Press Alt+C.

or

1. Click the icon in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
2. Click any Favorites folder to expand and show its contents.

To delete favorites

1. Right-click the favorite or folder you want to delete.
2. Select Delete from the drop-down menu that appears.

To move and organize favorites

Drag-and-drop your favorites to rearrange them. You can move them around in their current folder or to a different one.

To rename favorites

1. Right-click the favorite or folder you want to rename.
2. Select Rename from the drop-down menu that appears.

Google Chrome

1. Open the Google Chrome browser.
2. Press Ctrl+Shift+O.

or

1. Click in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
2. In the drop-down menu, move your mouse cursor over Bookmarks.

3. Click Bookmark manager on the side menu.

To delete bookmarks

1. Right-click the bookmark you want to delete.
2. Select Delete from the drop-down menu that appears.

To move and organize bookmarks

Drag-and-drop your bookmarks to rearrange them. You can move them around in their current folder or to a different one.

To rename bookmarks

1. Right-click the bookmark or folder you want to rename.
2. Select Edit from the drop-down menu that appears.

3. Type the desired name (A) and then click the button (B).

Google Chrome for Android

To access bookmarks

1. Open the Google Chrome app.
2. Tap in the upper-right corner of the app window.
3. Tap Bookmarks.

4. Tap the name of the folder containing your saved bookmarks.

To delete bookmarks

1. Locate the bookmark you want to delete.
2. On the right side of the bookmark, tap the icon.
3. Tape the Delete option in the drop-down menu that appears.

To move and organize bookmarks

1. Locate the bookmark you want to move.
2. On the right side of the bookmark, tap the icon.
3. Tap the Move to option in the drop-down menu that appears.

4. Select the name of the folder you want to move the bookmark.

To rename bookmarks

1. On the right side of the bookmark you want to rename, tap the icon.
2. Tap the Edit option in the drop-down menu that appears.

3. Rename the bookmark.

Mozilla Firefox

Note

To access bookmarks

1. Open the Mozilla Firefox browser.
2. Press Ctrl+Shift+B.

or

1. Click in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
2. Select Show All Bookmarks from the drop-down menu that appears.

3. You should see a list of your bookmark folders on the left, and their contents on the right, similar to the image below.

To delete bookmarks

1. Resize the library window so it's a bit larger. This action allows you to see your bookmark list. You may also maximize the window.

2. Right-click the bookmark you want to remove and select Delete from the drop-down menu that appears.

Tip

You may also click a bookmark or folder and press Delete on your keyboard to remove it.

To move and organize bookmarks

To rename bookmarks

1. Highlight the bookmark or folder you want to rename by clicking it once (A).
2. Locate the field labeled Name: in the lower-right section of the library window (B).
3. Type the desired name and press Enter. You may also click the blank space below the bookmark list (C).

Opera

Note

To access bookmarks

1. Open the Opera browser.
2. Press Ctrl+Shift+B.

or

1. Click in the upper-left corner of the browser window.
2. In the drop-down menu that appears, move your mouse cursor over Bookmarks.

3. Click Bookmarks.

To delete bookmarks

1. On the left side of the screen, in the Bookmarks section, choose the folder containing the bookmark you want to remove.

2. Locate the bookmark you would like to delete (window to the right) and move your mouse cursor over it.
3. An icon should appear in the upper-right corner; click it to delete the bookmark.

To move and organize bookmarks

To rename bookmarks

1. On the left side of the screen, in the Bookmarks section, choose the folder containing the bookmark you want to rename.

2. Locate the bookmark you would like to rename (window to the right) and move your mouse cursor over it.
3. An icon should appear in the upper-right corner; click it to edit the bookmark.

4. After clicking this icon, you can rename the bookmark. When done, press Enter.

Safari

Note

Always start by following the instructions in the first section. All the other actions, such as deleting, organizing, and renaming your bookmarks, require you to access them first.

To access bookmarks

1. Open the Safari browser.
2. Select Bookmarks from the toolbar at the top of the screen.

3. In the drop-down menu that appears, select Show Bookmarks.

To delete bookmarks

1. Select Bookmarks from the toolbar at the top of the screen.

2. In the drop-down menu that appears, select Edit Bookmarks.

3. You should see a list similar to the one shown below.

4. Right-click the bookmark you want to remove and select Delete from the drop-down menu.

Tip

You may also left-click the bookmark and press Delete.

To rename bookmarks

1. Select Bookmarks from the toolbar at the top of the screen.

2. In the drop-down menu that appears, select Edit Bookmarks.

3. You should see a list similar to the one depicted below.

4. Right-click the bookmark you want to rename and select Rename from the drop-down menu.

Safari on iPhone or iPad

Note

Always start by following the instructions in the first section. All of the other actions, such as deleting, organizing, and renaming your bookmarks, require you to access them first.

To access bookmarks

1. Open the Safari browser.
2. Tap the Bookmarks icon at the bottom of the screen.

To delete bookmarks

1. On the Bookmarks screen, tap the Favorites folder. If you have other folders besides the Favorites folder, and the bookmark you want to delete is in another folder, tap that folder instead.
2. Find the bookmark you want to delete, then swipe left on the bookmark name.
3. Tap the red Delete option to delete the bookmark.

To move and organize bookmarks

If you have multiple bookmark folders, you can move bookmarked web pages between them.

1. On the Bookmarks screen, tap the folder containing the bookmark you want to move to another folder.
2. Press and hold your finger on the bookmark you want to move until a menu opens at the bottom of the screen.
3. Tap the Edit option on the menu.

4. In the Location section, tap the name of the current bookmark folder, then tap the name of the folder where you want to move the bookmark.

To rename bookmarks

1. On the Bookmarks screen, tap the folder containing the bookmark you want to rename.
2. Press and hold your finger on the bookmark you want to rename until a menu opens at the bottom of the screen.
3. Tap the Edit option on the menu.

4. Tap the bookmark name. The name becomes editable, allowing you to rename it as desired.
